POND
About
PJ's Pond is an episodic interactive storybook game concept that promotes emotional development in children ages 5 to 8. Each 15-minute episode, available for iOS and Android, is a standalone story in which users assist PJ the frog in navigating childhood challenges such as making friends, sharing, and dealing with loss. PJ's Pond promotes emotional development in a secure, interactive environment with stimulating point-and-click gameplay, a loving narrative tone, and a diverse cast of characters. The game's storylines are based on the Ontario early education ELECT (Early Learning for Every Child Today) Framework, which ensures they are consistent with important developmental guidelines. By incorporating principles that mirror how young children naturally learn and interact with the world, PJ's Pond allows children to explore real-world scenarios in a digestible and meaningful way.
Challenge
A key challenge in developing PJ's Pond was determining the target age range so that the game's themes and gameplay were developmentally suitable. Emotional learning changes throughout childhood, so we wanted to tweak our approach to produce a meaningful, age-appropriate experience
Solution
Our solution was to do in-depth study on the various curriculum standards. We determined that the ideal audience for our intended storylines and mechanics was between the ages of 5-8.
